SACRED GROUND
Session 0 – Introduction to the Course
August 25, 2021 | 2:30pm PDT
Materials
It will be necessary to have two books for this course; all other resources will be provided or linked to. Prior to class on Sept. 8th, please purchase or order:
In addition, I recommend a dedicated journal or notebook – whatever your favorite medium is for taking notes on your reading and viewing assignments. Pens or pencils, highlighters and even colored pencils or crayons can be helpful both for note-taking and for highlighting or commenting in the margins of your books. Get creative if you want – it may be a helpful way to process what you’re encountering. This will also be a good place to capture any thoughts, feelings, insights, anything that bothers you, “aha!” moments, or questions you want to ask during discussion time.

Please complete assignments BEFORE the class meets on 8/25/21.

OPTIONAL, from 2020: Bishop Mariann Budde’s sermon at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. (August 30, 2020) is here. The video contains the entire service; if you only want to hear her sermon, it starts at around the 43 minute point.
Note taking
If it’s been a while since you last had to take notes on a class, I found this short video clip very helpful. Don’t worry if you’ve never learned Cornell Notes or Sketch Notes – this gives a brief overview of both.
